The Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) scheme provides financial upgradation to employees who have not received a regular promotion within specified service intervals — distinct from actual promotion, which changes the post held.
MACP — Core Structure
- Three financial upgradations are granted on completion of 10, 20, and 30 years of continuous regular service, if a regular promotion has not already occurred.
- MACP grants the next higher grade pay/pay level in the hierarchy applicable to the post, without changing the designation or duties.
- MACP is distinct from — and does not count against — the seniority-based or merit-based promotion (Selection/LDCE) route.
- Benchmark: 'Good' or better performance in the relevant APARs (Annual Performance Appraisal Reports) is typically required for MACP eligibility.
Exam Focus
A common trap: candidates confuse MACP's financial upgradation with an actual promotion. Remember — MACP changes pay level only; it does not change the post, designation, or duties of the employee.
