The 3-phase ABB locomotive is modular in construction, with the assembly consisting of 5 real main parts: (1) Roof, (2) Driver's cab, (3) Machine Room, (4) Bogie, (5) Frame.

Roof Equipment — Real 8-Item List

Equipment on the transformer's primary side is mounted on the roof: (1) Pantograph for current collection, (2) Internal air filter panel for oil-cooling unit, (3) 25kV bushing, (4) Surge arrester, (5) Earthing switch, (6) Vacuum circuit breaker, (7) Primary voltage transformer, (8) Resistance box for harmonic filter.

Machine Room — Real 32-Item Equipment Location List

The machine room sits between both driver's cabs with a central corridor; all cooling blowers, main converters, auxiliary converters, and control cubicles are fitted symmetrically on both sides of the corridor. Real equipment-tag numbers from the diagram:

Exam Focus — WAP5 vs WAG9 at a Glance
WAP5 (Bo-Bo, passenger, 4 motors, 160km/h, 78t) vs WAG9 (Co-Co, freight, 6 motors, 100km/h, 123t) — both use the same wheel diameters (1092/1054/1016mm) and identical hotel-load-related dimensions (cab length 2434mm, panto locked-down height 4255mm), but differ sharply in gear ratio (WAP5 3.941 vs WAG9 5.133 — freight needs more torque, less speed), traction motor model and rating, and starting tractive effort (258kN vs a much higher 460kN, reflecting WAG9's heavier haulage role).

Real haulage capacity data (without acceleration reserve) exists for both classes across grade (level, 1/500, 1/200, 1/150, 1/100, 1/50) and speed (20-160 km/h), separately for goods service (bogie wagons/4-wheeler wagons) and passenger service (ICF coach). As a representative real figure: WAG9 in goods service can haul above 6000 tonnes on level track at low speed, tapering to around 590 tonnes at 100 km/h on a 1/50 grade.
